NEIL SHAWCROSS
Neil Shawcross is a Northern Irish artist known for his distinctive use of vibrant colours, expressive brushstrokes, and striking portraits. His work spans various themes, including iconic figures, still life, and abstract forms, often blending a playful yet thoughtful approach. Shawcross’s career has earned him widespread recognition, with exhibitions across major galleries, solidifying his reputation as a significant contemporary artist. His art stands out for its boldness and emotional depth, making him a celebrated figure in the art world.

KARLA SANCHEZ
Mexican-born Karla O’Connell is the chairwoman of the Wexford arts centre. The Wexford-based art historian has studied and worked in both her native Mexico and in the United States. She has worked in various roles, including art curator and teacher of art history.
Co-director of Blackbird Cultur-lab (creative cultural laboratory based within a working farm engaging in regenerative agriculture practices), Karla Sánchez, has worked as a curator, teacher, program officer, strategic planner, and artistic advisor. After studying an MA in Art History & Museum Studies (Texas Christian University) supported by a Fulbright grant, she did internships and worked at various museums both in Mexico and the USA (Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Art Institute of Chicago, Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso). Since her arrival in Ireland in 2004, she has been actively involved in the arts. She is interested in the environment, art education, the role of art in contemporary society, interdisciplinary collaborative practices, and existentialism.
