Kelly’s Kitchen Garden – Head Gardener Deirdre Howlin 

Deirdre Howlin is Kelly Resort Hotel’s Head Gardener. With an impressive horticultural background and holding a BSc honours in Horticulture, Deirdre is a bundle of energy, having run her own Grange Green Plant centre and co-owned and managed the Tower Escargot Snail Farm.  Deirdre works full-time with Bill and Kelly’s Executive Chef, Eugene Callaghan, on the different varieties of seasonal vegetables ensuring the hotel gets maximum yields from the ground, while giving back to the land at the same time.

Gardener Gerry Daly was a familiar face and voice on RTÉ for many years. He led the panel on Ask About Gardening, a live phone-in show in which he answered questions from listeners, and he also took questions on Marion Finucane’s weekend radio show.

From 1991 to 1995, Daly was lead presenter of the popular gardening show Greenfingers on RTE and BBC Northern Ireland. The Enniscorthy native still works in the media, writing a weekly gardening column for the Irish Farmer’s Journal.

He also contributes to other publications including the Irish Independent and the Sunday Independent.

He is the editor of The Irish Garden Magazine. With seven issues per subscription year, it keeps its readers up-to-date with gardening news and events around the country.
